Respect.

Human rights in this country has been a process. Let's make it a wholehearted reality across the planet! "At times history and fate meet at a single time in a single place to shape a turning point in man's unending search for freedom." :President Lyndon Baines Johnson’s speech to a joint session of Congress on March 15, 1965: Our mission is at once the oldest and the most basic of this country: to right wrong, to do justice, to serve man. In our time we have come to live with moments of great crisis. Our lives have been marked with debate about great issues; issues of war and peace, issues of prosperity and depression. Rarely in any time does an issue lay bare the secret heart of America itself. Rarely are we met with a challenge, not to our growth or abundance, our welfare or our security, but rather to the values and the purposes and the meaning of our beloved Nation. The issue of equal rights. And should we defeat every enemy, should we double our wealt...

"Call me Ish-Mel." Mel's Modern Twists on the Classics

Melville and Mel "C all me Ish-Mel."  T he Voice came in loud and clear. My head snapped around. My entire being ground to a halt.  I waited. Wondering what the Voice was going to say next. It held endlessly. Then out of nowhere it returned.  “Call me Ish-Mel.”   I was in the kitchen parading through my late afternoon "what tea to enjoy" decision when like the booming voice of that classically trained actor projecting from the diaphragm for a rainy performance of Shakespeare in the Park I was invaded. When I realized it wasn’t going to stop echoing in my head I spoke out loud… “Okay. That’s kinda funny... Huh. Call me Ish-Mel.”  The Voice stopped as my conscious mind picked up the hint driving me into action, looking up Herman Melville’s classic text in one of those convenient online libraries. (I love how readily and easily available for deeper inspection are the randomly intriguing thoughts of the brain when a computer is on hand.) After a few clicks I connect...

Relationships.

Image
The last thing you want to do with any relationship that is designed to be whole and free and Loving is to turn it into an unholy relationship with the imposter self, that false ego, that’s saying… “This is what you have to put up with.” “It’s going to be the same everywhere else.” "We fight all the time, but who doesn't." “Being unhappy is the way relationships work.” “It’s easier to stay put.” Everyone has an imprint a recovery file in their DNA the computer processing center of your being to reset the system. This is especially true for relationships. Every moment offers the opportunity to take a moment to download the necessary reset point to remain open and loving when the person in your life is driving you up a wall and you can't shake the pattern. The relationship you are in can transform, it can re-animate, or you can come to the realization that it has served its purpose and it is time to move on. Think of it like a file to download, a hard drive to recove...

Frank Lloyd Wright's Organic Principles of Creation...

Image
An artist finds their cornerstone ideas upon which to build their vision. These ideas become foundational elements that provide much needed structure to creative endeavors sustaining any effort when chaos ensues in the creation process and opportunities arise to get lost in the details and opinions and needs of clients, consumers and the general helpfulness of well wishes. Written by Frank Lloyd Wright The Organic Commandment showcases this idea with elegance and insight. You see the underlying discipline in the ideas and shapes that shaped his work ethic.

My Happiness Lies in the Process

When my nervous system is not yet aligned with my thoughts, my happiness lies in the process. Acceptance is a gift we give that is returned a thousand fold.

Fabulous!

Sundays CBS broadcast of the 2011 Tony Awards was a beautifully produced show. A lot of heart warming moments and once again the thrill and surprise and joy of celebrating this amazing art form was on full display. Super awesome-ness and most certainly what live theater is all about! Thanks to whoever posted these clips from the show on Youtube! It's raining men! Martha Wash and the Broadway cast of Priscilla Queen of the Desert. The big winner of the night THE BOOK OF MORMON showcased its terrific "I Believe" from the show sung by Tony nominee Andrew Rannells. On a personal note. So many amazing people who devoted their lives to the theater died this year, one in particular was one of my theatrical heroes Arthur Laurents. A brilliant writer. A beautiful man. His work continues to be an inspiration. Great job Neil Patrick Harris! Oh, I can't get enough of Angela Lansbury. Go Broadway! Get to New York and see a show. Any show. TKTS.

Hugging it out! with Amma

Image
"My one mission is to Love and Serve one and all..." The "hugging saint" Amma was in Los Angeles this weekend doing what she does. Amma delivers on the universal message. Set up Shop. Shine Your Light. Be Yourself. And. I'll add... If you think you have nothing to offer in any situation put a smile on your face and add a hug to the mix.

Sad day with the loss of producing legend Laura Ziskin to Breast Cancer. She produced so many amazing films in a three decade career. May laughs, and love and joy surround her family and friends. She was just Too Marvelous for Words....

"We've got elegance." Tony Awards on CBS tonight!! Check out a couple of past posts and performances... Carol Channing and Pearl Bailey performing together. A favorite Tony performance from Side Show. Triumph the Insult Comic Dog covers the Tony red carpet. (Super thanks to Conan O'Brien. Hilarious.) Tonight's show looks like it will be a big year for the South Park creators turned Broadway super studs with their BOOK OF MORMON. Here's the guys, Trey Parker and Matt Stone talking about the evolution of their powerful, laugh out loud, show. To sum up. The Tony Awards are a treat. Moments captured in time reflecting the pulse of the country. Enjoy. Tune in. Wake up.

Three Thoughts on Love & the Soul...

Image
by Peter Wilberg author of The New Yoga... "Love in the deepest sense can only come from recognizing both our own feelings and those of others as the “surface” of a deeper knowing -   a direct feeling cognition of the other. Feelings are but the “surface of inner cognitions” (Seth). They are the surface expression of a feeling awareness and a feeling cognition that directly touches and therefore directly knows its object. This feeling cognition has the character of a direct bodily proprioception of the soul of the other." "Love may find outer expression in the romantic feelings, in the ‘heat’ or ‘fire’ of passion and in close sexual contact but its source is the inner warmth and light of the feeling soul - in those felt qualities and flows of awareness that are experienced in the “nearness of distance.” Love may also find expression in aesthetic creativity and in bodies of intellectual knowledge - but its source is a direct inner knowing that belongs to the feelin...
