Ghandi. Return to Prayer (for Life) - Your Whole Being is Beautiful...

Prayerfulness has been a practice of mine for the past several years. It goes hand in hand with the work of the heart. It greases the wheels of our dreams and empowers the wishes of eternity.

At a recent outing to the Lake Shrine in Los Angeles visiting the Gandhi World Peace Memorial which enshrines a portion of the ashes of Gandhi I got the opportunity to contemplate, to meditate and to enjoy the peace filled environment alive with possibility and purpose. A mecca to self actualization.

Wanted to share some of the selections from Gandhi's writings brought forward from this visit.  Through Gandhi's words you can feel the power of prayer as practice, of messenger to the greatest gift of humility, to the activation point of what is truth; that deep and abiding peace of mind, body and spirit that rings so clearly it creates the dance of life.  

I share this knowing there is work to be done in our hearts. There is work to be done in our communities, there is work to be done in our friends and families. There is work to be done in our worlds. This work is made easier from the deep humility of prayerful thought.  God gave us the word to make manifest the energies of creation. The word brings love into action as movement flowing with all that is becoming a harmony of transmission to the means inherent in the end. A peace loving healed and whole world.

"Prayer needs no speech. It is in itself independent of any sensuous effort. I have not the slightest doubt that prayer is an unfailing means of cleansing the ehart of passions. But it must be combined with the utmost humility.

As food is necessary for the body, prayer is neccessary for the soul. Prayer is an impossibility without a living faith in the presence of God within. God demands nothing less than complete self-surrender as the price for the only real freedom that is worth having.

Never own defeat in a sacred cause. Make up your mind hencefoth that you will be pure and that you will find a response from God. But God never answers the prayers of the arrogant, nor the prayers of those who bargain with him. if you would ask him to help you, go to him in all your nakedness; approach him without reservatinos, also without fear or doubts as to how he can help a fallen being like you.

The prayer of even the most impure will be answered. I am telling this out of my personal experience, I have gone through the purgatory.

Prayer is the key of the morning and the bolt of the evening. "It is better in prayer to have a heart without words than words without a heart." (Bunyan)

I am giving you a bit of my experience and that of my companions when I say that he who has experienced the magic of prayer may do without food for days together but not for a single moment without prayer. For without prayer there is no inward peace.


The more my faith in God increased, the more irrestistable became the yearnings for prayer. Life seemed to me dull and vanct without it. In fact food for the body is not so necessary as prayer for the soul.

I have found people who envy my peace. That peace comes from prayer; I am not a man of learning but I humbly claim to be a man of prayer. I am indifferent as to the form. Everyone is a law unto himself in that respect.

It has occured to me that a seeker after truth has to be silent. I know the wonderful efficacy of silence.

Let everyone try and find out that as a result of daily prayer he adds something new to his life, something with which nothing else can be compared."

Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote… “Mahatma #Gandhi never had more than one hundred persons absolutely committed to his #philosophy. But with this small group of devoted followers, he galvanized the whole of India, and through a #magnificentfeat of nonviolence challenged the might of the British Empire and won freedom for his people. This method of nonviolence will not work #miracles overnight. Men are not easily moved from their mental ruts, their prejudiced and irrational feelings." It is time to shift your thoughts, your attitidue, your work and service toward #love. Be committed.
